About Me

Hi there! Thanks for stopping by to learn a bit about me.

My name is Holly Forbes. I was born in Trinidad, but currently live in the United States.

For as long as I can remember, I've always been passionate about anything that involved "creating" and "solving." As such, my favorite subjects in school were art, math, and science. I love all aspects of creative and visual art and have dabbled in drawing, painting, crocheting, video editing, and post card making, just to name a few. I also love learning, solving problems, and teaching.

I grew up in Trinidad eating whatever my great-grandmother cooked. My favorite meal was spaghetti and ground beef, and I also thoroughly enjoyed the island's most popular dish, curry potato and chicken. I ate because I enjoyed food and I ate because food was needed to sustain life. That's all I knew, eat to survive, and enjoy your food.

Then one day I was introduced to The Natural Remedies Encyclopedia. This book contained remedies to over 730 diseases and disorders. At the time, I was battling some gastrointestinal issues and debilitating menstrual cramps. Out of curiosity and an intense desire to alleviate my digestive problems and menstrual cramps, I skimmed through the book and noticed that the main remedy for many conditions were to eat more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and eat less meat, processed foods, and sugary foods. I was unaware of the relationship between diet and disease, and I saw firsthand the positive effects of good nutrition.

At the age of sixteen, my eyes were opened to the field of nutrition and wellness, and then came a burning desire to seek to promote health and prevent disease. Because of this passion, I went on to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics at Oakwood University.

I believe that we should focus on the positive and cultivate a healthy relationship with food. I believe that we should eat to nourish, and acknowledge that that means something different to everyone, it can be done in many ways, and doing so should be simple.

Although I first welcomed nutrition to prevent disease, I’ve learned that it’s so much more than that. Therefore, I believe that good nutrition should produce both health and happiness, and so I endeavor to not isolate nutrition, but integrate it with wellness of mind, body, and soul.

I endeavor to bring awareness to the profession of nutrition and dietetics, help future dietitians navigate their path, inspire others to study nutrition, teach clinical nutrition concepts through real life case studies, show that dietetics is more than just cooking and making meal plans, and above all, inspire others to make meaningful changes in their lives.
